Accreditation Education Research & Scientific Service Center (AERSSC), Nepal an independent Accreditation Body, engaged in the accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) is a part of Accreditation Education Research and Scientific Service Center (AERSSC) Pvt. Ltd., a company incorporated under subsection (1) of Section 5 of the Companies Act 2006 in Nepal.
Accreditation Education Research & Scientific Service Center (AERSSC), Nepal operates an Accreditation System with impartiality, fairness, efficiency, and transparency to achieve international recognition.
Accreditation is the third-party attestation related to a conformity assessment body conveying the formal demonstration of its competence to carry out specific conformity assessment tasks. Conformity Assessment Body (CAB).
ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) is the international organisation for accreditation bodies operating in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011 and involved in the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies including calibration laboratories (using ISO/IEC 17025), testing laboratories (using ISO/IEC 17025), medical testing laboratories (using ISO 15189), inspection bodies (using ISO/IEC 17020), proficiency testing providers (using ISO/IEC 17043) and reference material producers (using ISO 17034).
International Accreditation Forum (IAF) is a worldwide association of accreditation bodies and other bodies interested in conformity assessment in the fields of management systems (using ISO/IEC 17021), products, processes, services (using ISO/IEC 17065), personnel (using ISO/IEC 17024), validation and verification (using ISO/IEC 17029) and other similar programmes of conformity assessment.
Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC)‘s primary role is to manage and expand a mutual recognition arrangement (MRA) among accreditation bodies in the Asia Pacific region.
AERSSC accreditation is open to laboratories within & outside Nepal based on requests received and as per provisions made. AERSSC is committed to:
- Provide accreditation services to the Conformity Assessment Bodies in accordance with the prevailing latest International Standards;
- Establish the national accreditation system in line with the international requirements, ISO/IEC 17011:2017;
- Develop and maintain the Regional and International MRAs;
- Provide credible, cost-effective accreditation services aimed at supporting trade, enhancing the protection of consumers and the environment, and improving the competitiveness of Nepalese products and services in both the voluntary and regulatory areas;

Provide training services in accreditation-related activities to create awareness of the benefits and importance of accreditation and to promote the understanding of the key Conformity Assessment Standards & related topics.
International Recognition of AERSSC, Nepal
AERSSC has an established accreditation system in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011:2017 “Conformity Assessment – Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies”
- AERSSC application for Full Member Status of APLAC was approved on 23rd June 2017.
- AERSSC is a Full Member of both the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) & and Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) and MRA Signatory of ILAC since 17th February 2021.

However, MRA Signatory of AERSSC was discontinued on 3rd January 2023 due to a limited number of accredited labs, since AERSSC could not submit the evidence of AERSSC self-supported during reevaluation by APAC team held during February / March 2022.
At Present, AERSSC is an Associate member of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
AERSSC is committed to ensuring integrity and impartiality at all levels while implementing its systems and operations. AERSSC offers accreditation services in a non-discriminatory manner. These services are accessible to the Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) regardless of the location, size or its membership of any association or group or number of CABs.

Formal recognition of the competence of a laboratory by AERSSC in accordance with international criteria has many advantages:
- A ready means for customers to identify and select reliable testing, measurement and calibration services that can meet their needs.
- Increased confidence in Testing/ Calibration Reports issued by the testing, calibration and medical testing laboratories which emphasize accuracy and reliable results.

Accredited laboratories receive a form of international recognition, which allows their data and results to be more readily accepted in overseas markets. Accreditation helps to reduce costs for manufacturers and exporters who have their products or materials tested in accredited laboratories, by reducing or eliminating the need for retesting in another country.
